Introduction

The International University of Sarajevo is a non-profit independent institution of higher education that autonomously provides funding for its work. It offers educational programs in all three study cycles, as well as specific professional development programs in the registered areas.

IUS is accredited with the national Agency for the Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance and listed in the state register of accredited higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The university is an associate member of European University Association (EUA) and a full member of International Association of Universities (IAU). Additionally, all the seven programs represented through Keystone are accredited by AQ Austria for six years as of September 2016.

IUS follows a four-year degree structure at the undergraduate level. The programs are compatible with the Bologna system and allow free transfer of credits through ECTS. A bachelor degree at IUS is valued at 240 credits. A master’s program at IUS lasts one year and is valued at 60 credits.

Language requirements

The language of communication and education at IUS is English, and all prospective students need proof of language proficiency (IELTS 6 or TOEFL IBT 79). Students who lack this level of proficiency may study at the English Language School until they are ready for their faculty studies language-wise.

Participation fees

At undergraduate level the cost of a program starts from 3600 Euro with the relevant scholarships.

For master’s in Genetics and Bioengineering the fee is 3500 Euro. For the International Relations and Electrical and Electronics Engineering programs, the fee is 3000 Euro.

This program rests on broad-based engineering education with specialization, self-learning and development. In addition to the program courses, basic principles of economics, management and social sciences are also included in the curriculum. Our philosophy is not only to educate engineers, but to prepare them for future leadership roles in the industry. Practical training in engineering includes practical work in laboratories (Electronics, Complex Systems, Control Systems, Power Systems and Telecommunications), developing skills in programming and the use of computers in engineering practice, as well as development of the spirit and an affinity for teamwork and lifelong learning. The Final project is commonly associated with the current IUS research and/or is performed in cooperation with companies outside the IUS. Genetics and Bioengineering Program is a special program combining natural sciences and engineering. The principal is to first understand and explore the biological processes at the cellular level, then correlate this knowledge with different fields of engineering, and finally implement solutions in the industry and technology. Genetics and bioengineering is broadly applicable and used in biomedicine, biotechnology as well as other related fields. Bioengineers are primarily oriented to the application of methods and techniques in the field of engineering and problems in biology and medicine. The primary use of the biotechnology is based on the design and development of new devices, production of new biomaterials, artificial tissues and organs, as well as development and production of pharmaceuticals. Practical work throughout the course is commonly associated with the ongoing projects at Research and Development Center (RDC) or being conducted in other institutions and companies that IUS has an agreement on cooperation. The study of International Relations at the IUS enables students to understand and analyse the actors, decision-making processes, and institutions at the local, regional, and international levels. The field of International Relations is multidisciplinary, and it includes history, political science, economics, sociology, the law, philosophy, and anthropology.
